Finish planner

Tell it what you are finishing and in which wood. It shows the finishes whose makers name that use on their own sheets, what our sources say about your wood, and a coat-by-coat schedule, with dates, from the product's own drying times.

Question 1 of 5

    What are you finishing?

    How it decides

A finish is offered only when its maker names that use on its own sheet: General Finishes naming furniture and cabinets for Arm-R-Seal, Osmo naming floors for Polyx-Oil. Finishes whose makers rule the use out are listed as ruled out, with the maker's words. A use no maker we have read names gets no recommendation; for food, see food-contact finishes.

The schedule uses each product's own times: the longer end of a printed range, and a printed minimum as given. Where a sheet prints no time for a step, the plan says so and stops rather than guess. Every product's figures, side by side: finish dry time chart. How much to buy: finish coverage calculator.
