Table saw not cutting square

What you see

  1. A cut that should be 90° comes out slightly off: across the face of the board, or through its thickness.

    3 sources agree , sources [1, 2, 3]

Likely causes

Most-agreed first: the more makers name a cause, the higher it sits.

  1. The blade’s 90° tilt stop is out of adjustment, so the blade is not square to the table.

    3 sources agree , sources [1, 2, 3]

  2. The miter gauge is not square to the blade.

Two sources: SawStop and DeWalt , sources [2, 3]

  3. The blade is not parallel to the miter slot.

Two sources: Grizzly Industrial and Delta , sources [1, 4]

How to tell which

  1. An edge that is off square through the board’s thickness points to the tilt (bevel) stop; one that is off across the face points to the miter gauge.

Two sources: SawStop and DeWalt , sources [2, 3]

What to change

Change one thing at a time, so you know which change fixed it.

  1. Reset the 90° tilt stop, checking with a square against the blade.

  2. Square the miter gauge to the blade.

Two sources: SawStop and DeWalt , sources [2, 3]

  3. Make the blade parallel to the miter slot.
